As part of the OPEN WORLD exhibition in the Kazerne, David Marín from Guatemala presents his N-Cycle project. OPEN WORLD demonstrates how the symbiosis between technique, design and art contributes to the development of new materials and aesthetic forms.

Marins’ sculpture, created in co-production with Baltan Laboratories and Hivos, resembles symbols of Dutch identity such as the wind mill, a flower and bicycles, with the intention to illustrate the idea of re-programming collective imagery.  The 8 cycle kinetic sound sculpture derives from a larger project on generating spatially distributed sound textures in order to create different ambiences. The design principle is to create the texture with commercially available parts -not in the spirit of recycling materials, but considering the set of objects as a gigantic Lego.

David Marín is an artist and a scientist from Guatemala City, Guatemala. He holds a PhD in Biology, Maths and Physics from Rutgers University in the US. Among Marín's main interests is Open Source Law, commercialism and Mayan culture. He also builds computer-controlled kinetic sculptures and makes music out of randomness.

OPEN WORLD features; Steven Banken, Joost van Bleiswijk, Nacho Carbonell, Raw Color, Ritchie van Daal, Kiki van Eijk, Studio Drift, Massoud Hassani, Paul Heijnen, Jeffrey Heiligers, New Window, David Derksen, New Window,  Ola Lanko, The OceanCleanup, Laura Lynn Jansen & Thomas Vailly, David Marín for Baltan Laboratories, Arnout Meijer, Nightshop for DHPH, Os ∆ Oos, Michael Funch Petersen, and others.  The exhibition opens on 20 February and continues to include Dutch Technology Week in Eindhoven at the beginning of June 2015.
