The DIY Mobile Shoe Lab by Roy Ombatti is developed to make unique shoes for people with strongly deformed feet caused by jiggers. People get a glimpse of the idea behind the entire production process to make these customised shoes. Simultaneously the idea of using emergent technologies such as a 3D printer will be displayed for the participants to learn about the ideas and processes to use recycled plastic products.

Ombatti’s DIY Shoe lab presents a narrative about Kenya to create a direct connection to the people from his home country. During the Dutch Design Week, Ombatti's ambition is to reflect on this specific problem in his home country and learn from the local network during DDW. Ombatti states: “The shoes are not only for people suffering from the jigger menace but also for anyone who fancies a pair of customized shoes.”

This project has been made possible with the kind support of Ultimaker and YouMagine. Age of Wonderland is an initiative by Baltan Laboratories and Hivos, as part of the Dutch Design Week 2014.
